Survival of a small city [videorecording] : a new documentary on urban renewal | Part 1

Studies the ecological history of the American grasslands, describing the destruction of the grasslands by man and the present-day realization that the land has to be protected.

Edited by Pablo Frasconi and Nancy Salzer ; cinematography, Pablo Frasconi ; sound recordist, Nancy Salzer

Depicts the struggle of South Norwalk, Connecticut, to reverse its economic decline and accompanying deterioration, showing the consequences of revitalization and gentrification. The conflicting perspectives of residents, old and new store owners, artists, politicians, historic preservationists, urban planners, and developers raise puzzling questions about the validity of current popular solutions to urban distress. Filmed between Nov. 1979 and Sept. 1980
